    I read a book about this boy who keeps forgetting something every day when he's at school, and I have some observations about myself. Firstly, reading in Japanese is hard. I didn't really understand the katakana written down and only really managed to piece everything together. The pictures definitely helped with context clues in order for me to understand what was going on, like how the word sensei was repeated at the beginning of each sentence when the kid had to tell the teacher he had forgotten something. Repeated words like that I could somewhat gather from context, but beyond that I was primarily lost. If anything I enjoyed viewing it as a picture book.

    I notice this with reading in Spanish too. I struggle with reading the words correctly but when It's spoken out loud to me I can translate it in my head near perfectly. I think this is due to me reading slowly in general. Even in English, I noticed I'm rather slow compared to others and need time to really understand what I'm reading. In a new language as well, I read much, much slower. It makes me feel bad when I think about the other people I was reading with cause they could read it out so fluently and I could only pick out certain symbols. I still am proud I can read symbols at least, as maybe then they can help with deciphering context clues and I can get the general gist of future books I read. Just nothing complete for now.
